March 24, 2012 - Molly's Wedding Day

Saturday, Mar. 24
We drove to the Salt Lake City airport in the dark at 6am, in order to standby for every flight possible.  One of the freeways was closed on the way, so we got a little lost on our detour; but fortunately, we left early enough and didn't have to rush too much.  The girls and I left Bruce at the international ticket counter and ran for a flight, which was too full for us.  Bruce got held up at ticketing for so long that he had to run for his flight, but he was given a seat, unlike us.  So, we said goodbye by cell phone.

There were so many flights to southern California to choose from, but they were all full and left within ten minutes of each other, so I had to pick one and hope for the best.  I compared all the flights as quickly as I could, and chose the one I thought would be best.  We ended up getting the last seats on that flight to Orange County, and my mom was able to pick us up there.  We were so happy to get there in the morning, because the wedding photos were being taken at 1:30, and we were saved from a very expensive taxi ride!

Carolee, my sister-in-law, had her home open and ready to accommodate us whenever we arrived (in spite of all that she had going on!--her first daughter getting married).  We arrived in time to see the bride and bridesmaids getting ready.  Here is the bride (Molly, my brother's daughter) getting her make-up done.

Isn't the dress gorgeous?

Bridesmaids:  Mattie (my nephew's wife), Sadie (my other nephew's fiance'), a friend of Molly's, and my other niece, Abby.

Mother (Carolee) and daughter.

Mother and daughters -- they look beautiful! (Carolee, Molly, and Abby)

After everyone left, Brooke and Reese had a quick swim in the backyard before we had to go as well.

The water is freezing!

Here goes nothin'!

After a short swim, we headed to where the wedding photos were being taken.  From left to right, this is my dad (Jim), my brother (Tom), my sister-in-law (Carolee), me, Brooke, my mom (Marcia), and Reese.

The groom is in the middle with his father on the right and my brother on the left; and to the right of his father are my two nephews, Daniel and John.

Then we drove to the wedding site.  It was next to an orange grove.  It was neat to be back in California where I grew up, with all the orange groves.

Bruce called to let me know that he got a seat on his flight to Amsterdam... he was sorry he'll miss the wedding, but he'll be back in Saudi tomorrow morning with Jordan, and back to work on desert Tuesday.

The wedding has started and the family is being walked to their seats.  Here is my mom.

Here is my dad.

This is my dad (on the right) and his brother, my Uncle Leonard.  I didn't seem to get a picture of Aunt Audrey.

I had to catch a flight with my mom in order to get her home in time for her college class, so at 9pm, we set the GPS for the airport and left the wedding.  We set the GPS for the wrong airport (the Corona Municipal airport instead of the Ontario International Airport) so we were too late to try for the flight.  When we finally found where to return the rental car, we decided to keep the rental car and drive back to my brother's house to spend the night and check for the next flight to Little Rock for my mom.  Because buddy passes were embargoed for the next day, we knew we were staying for two nights and she would probably miss her class on Monday morning.  The girls fell asleep in the back of the car and didn't even know where we were when we drove up to my brother's house.

Everyone was home from the wedding by this time, but we had just missed the bride and groom by a few minutes!  They were off and heading to their honeymoon in the morning, so we didn't get to see them again.  But my nephews and their spouse and fiance', and my niece were all in the living room eating pizza with their parents.  We stayed up for a bit and visited, and then we all went to bed.  It was a VERY long day for me and the girls since we left Deer Valley only that morning at 6am!  It was almost midnight in California when I finally went to bed.
