We've come up with all kinds of ways to refresh ourselves in this heat.  Here, Reese made lemonade ice cubes to eat.

Here is Jordan's school bus.

She is home from her first day of school!  Brooke is out playing with the neighbor kids because the elementary and jr. high schools don't start until Saturday.  But I am anxiously waiting to hear all about high school.  Jordan took Bruce's cell phone with her, but immediately found out from the other kids on the bus that cell phones aren't allowed, so she quickly called me to let me know that his phone would be in her backpack for the rest of the day.  She is able to call me from the bus, however.

Here's how her school schedule works:

The bus picks her up at 6:55am and school starts at 8am (7:40am on Saturday).

The classes on Saturday are shorter than the other days, so they can squeeze all 8 classes into one day.   There are two lunches and Jordan has the second lunch, so she says that most of the food at their dining hall is gone by the time she gets to eat (and there's nowhere to store a lunch -- she would have to carry it around with her all day in the heat.)  Then the bus leaves the school at 2:30pm and drops her off at home around 3:30pm.  The main thing she was surprised about on her first day of school, was how much sitting everyone does all day.  I guess we've taken it for granted, but homeschoolers really do have a lot more freedom in that area.  It was also surprising how long it took the bus to get to and from school when it was only a ten-minute drive.  In the morning, she was one of the first kids to be picked up, and in the afternoon, one of the first to be dropped off, so her morning ride should be a little longer; but they were both pretty long because the high school parking lot was grid-locked with all the parents and cars after school.

Over all, she is enjoying school and looking forward to making some friends!
