I forgot to tell you how Jordan tried out for the varsity soccer team at school, and she made it! They have very short sport seasons here so the kids can compete in a variety of sports without having them conflict. Jordan will have one soccer tournament, and she will have to fly to Jeddah with the team in December! She is so excited. We also found out that she will not be staying in a hotel, but with a local family who lives there! What an experience!
November 22:
Our friends across the street have received their shipment (that's when they receive all of their furniture and household goods that were shipped over here) and I spent two days helping them unpack boxes and trying to fit belongings from a 4000 square foot home into a 1800 square foot home. It was exhausting. And because the schools on camp bus the kids home for lunch, they didn't want their kids under foot at lunch time, so they came over to our house for lunch. Sitting next to Reese is Stephanie, and next to her is Grant. They're enjoying lunch on our new table!
November 24:
Today is Thanksgiving, and since the Saudis don't celebrate it, we're fortunate it falls on a weekend day every year -- Thursday! Each girl invited a friend over this afternoon to make caramel apples.

We were going to have some people over to our house, but Gina has invited us to Connie's house because she is having several families over as well. We'll just bring our turkey with us.... it will be nice to get out and meet some more people!
Here is my apple pie. Reese peeled the apples and Brooke mixed the dough.
Connie decorated her home beautifully with tables in every room as well as outside on the patio with lights and tiki torches. Unfortunately, it was a very cold evening and I couldn't bear to shiver through dinner, so I ate inside.
This is my friend, Gina, from Chicago. She invited us to the dinner tonight.
The kids are upstairs playing X-Box.

November 25:
Reese and Brooke have joined the flag football team. Each weekend, they meet on this field to play. Brooke won't be able to play much until the Aladdin show is over. She is at practice four days a week between 2 and 6 hours a day!
Jordan has been busy with homework and studying, but the rest of the family has also been spending time at the theater helping. Bruce has been woodworking, making parts for the sets, I have been sewing and working on the costumes, and even Reese has been working on the spot lights. Reese has the best seat in the house where she has to climb a ladder to work the lights! We are all enjoying our jobs.

Brooke rushed to the football field after the Aladdin rehearsal and was only able to catch the last 30 minutes of the game. After the game she rushed home to eat dinner, and then rushed off to her middle school fellowship where they played Capture the Flag. She was exhausted when she finally got home!
November 26:
Today we had some more rain!
Here we are eating the left over caramel apples... before tasting them.

Two bites! Ummm... they look good!
Now it's time to set up our Christmas tree. Bruce bought it last year at a church second-hand Christmas sale.
Voila! Isn't it pretty? My friends, Gina and Laura, both loaned me a string of lights, so even though you can't see them in this picture, we have tiny blinking lights on the tree.
Because we didn't bring any Christmas ornaments, Brooke and Reese got creative and made their own.

We were planning to make this chain go all around the tree, but have decided to take a break. We may also string popcorn, but we're not sure.
November 28:
Reese has been invited to attend AWANA with her friend, Stephanie, tonight and every Monday; and is loving it.
It's been pretty chilly lately, but we're told that a big rain storm is expected tomorrow and that all the schools in the eastern part of the country have been cancelled! Jordan is happy about that!
November 29:
Well, it didn't rain all day. The kids on camp still had to go to school because their schools are so close, but Jordan enjoyed her day off to catch up on her sleep and her studies. She's preparing to take the SAT next week.
Finally as dusk fell, it started to sprinkle and then rain. It rained continuously all night, and after dinner our neighborhood was flooded! Brooke and Reese had a blast playing in the water. They came home at 8pm dirty, drenched, and cold until Bruce fixed them hot chocolate!
Now we see why the schools were cancelled in case it rained during school hours! There is no drainage system in this country and everything floods until the water can run off. It would've been absolute chaos if cars had been stuck in the floods. In the past, people have died in the floods. It helps us understand how the floods came so quickly in Noah's time!
November 30:
Jordan has to wake up super early this morning and be at school at 5:30am to catch the soccer bus to the airport! She gets to miss another day of school, but is especially excited that she gets to go to Jeddah today (BY HERSELF!) We can't wait to hear all the details when she gets back.
